Lions and tigers and wine, oh my!

Saturday, May 26
In addition to all of the great work we’ve been doing here in South Africa, we’ve also had the chance to see some pretty incredible things. Last weekend while the boys went on a road trip to go shark cage driving and bungee jumping (no thanks) we girls took a day trip to a cat park and a winery.
One of the most amazing parts about the cat park was the setting. It was beautiful. There was even a wedding going on there.
Simply amazing.
All of us at the cat park
I wouldn’t mind having my wedding here
Even though tigers aren’t technically native to Africa, these guys were so cute
The lions were named Nala and Mufasa… how creative
Hanging with the lions
Wine tasting– we tried 8 different kinds!
At the wine tasting
We all took portraits at the winery
Again, I couldn’t help but notice the huge contradiction between the very very poor and the very very rich– side by side but completely divided. On our way through the country we passed through Muizenburg, a town known around the world for its excellent surfing (much like Kommetejie). Then we passed Khayelitsha, known as one of Africa’s biggest slums. All of it next to gorgeous steep mountains and sandy beaches, and on the way to a high-class cat park and winery. South Africa is truly an incredible place.
Khayelitsha is the kind of place you think of when you picture an African slum– houses made out of scrap metal and old train cars.
